Upper Macungie Township seeks an experienced leader to serve as its Sewer System Operations Director, who will manage all administrative, financial, and technical operations. The Township operates a collection system of 120 miles, with 3,000 manholes, and 6 pump stations with an average flow of 5,800 GPD. The total budget is $7 million per year with 11 employees including 6 crew members responsible for system maintenance. In 2000, the Township’s population was 22,000. The Township does not own a waste water treatment plant.
The Township is a customer of the Lehigh County Authority, which owns and is responsible for the major interceptor lines, a 5.75 MGD pre-treatment plant and a 40 MGD treatment plant located in Allentown. The main treatment plant itself handles the treatment requirements for 14 municipalities. The Township has 7,000 residential customers and 450 commercial/industrial customers, including large factories and other heavy sewer users. The Township has a very proactive program to combat flow and infiltration problems with the collection system being in excellent physical condition. The Township will also be responsible for administering the Pennsylvania Sewerage Facilities Act 537 governing 775 on-site sewer systems. The Township has a monthly/quarterly billing cycle and is in good financial condition with no outstanding debt.
The Director will report to the Township Manager. Candidates should have management experience, leadership skills, and financial/budget experience and skills; technical knowledge of sewer collection systems and wastewater treatment plants not required; public sector experience preferred, but not required but will consider relevant experience in all facets of the operations. Engineering and/or finance experience will be helpful. Salary $75,000 to $85,000; actual salary to be based on experience/qualifications.

Sewer Crew Laborer
Upper Macungie Township is currently accepting applications/resumes for the position of a full time SEWER CREW LABORER- within the Public Works Dept.
This position is required to meet all laborer functions & be able to work as part of a team. Have the ability to operate heavy equipment, work in confined spaces, knowledge of plumbing & electrical trades, have experience in repair and maintenance of sewer lines, storm drains, pump stations, and able to interact with vendors and the public in a courteous way. Required to work in all types of weather. Other responsibilities within the Public Works department include snow plowing, leaf removal, mowing and assisting the other departments with various projects, etc. and be available during emergencies. Able to lift up to 50 lbs. & perform strenuous and repetitive work, as well as follow work safety procedures and practices. Must have a PA B CDL license with a good driving record. This position reports to the Crew Leaders as well as the Sewer Authority Manager/Director of Public Works and is a full time hourly position. Recycling Center Drop-Off Site Attendant

Upper Macungie Township is accepting applications for part-time employment in the public works department at the rate of $8.50 per hour.

Duties involved are, but not limited to: Opens and closes the recycling center, assists the users of the facility regarding the operating hours, acceptable materials, placement in the appropriate areas, and directs traffic as needed. Applicant must have a valid PA Driver’s License, be at least 18 years of age or older, be medically and physically able to perform all job tasks, work independently outdoors in all weather conditions, possess good oral communication skills and pass a pre-employment background check as well as a post-offer physical with drug screen.

Candidate must be willing to work evenings, weekends and holidays, if circumstances warrant.
